History of robotics

Automation and regulation department (KAR) was established at the end of fiftieth in 20th century as a need of society development. Development of mechanization, automation and regulation in other developed countries brought higher work productivity and work conditions improvement for workers in factories. Due to mentioned development we had a program for establishing mechanization and automation in our country. The main developmental area was engineering, chemical industry and energetics. One of the key objectives was education of new specialists in this area. The turn of sixtieth and seventieth automation and regulation department solved the problem of systems. Except of operation theory subjects, department created 25 subjects in automation. Department significantly contributed to establish statewide conception of departmental study. First time in 1982 and 1983 was established Robototechnics subject at KAR STU. The new subject was oriented mainly on robotics for students in the fifth year. Prof. Ing. Václav Kalaš, DrSc. discoursed Robototechnics and he was also the head of the KAR. In 1987 was established the new project with the study plans of Technical cybernetic subject. Project was oriented mainly on Robotics. Slovakia had a dominant position in Robotic area at this time. Department significantly contributed to development of Robotic within the whole SVŠT. Since 1963 till now raised more than 3000 successful graduates from Automation technology, technical cybernetic and Automation. The scientific activities are connected with practice in the long term basis. Creative results acquired in research targets were successfully used in practice within the different branches. The scientific activities and cooperation with practice were connected in a lot of automatic and robotic areas. Team of scientific leaders worked at department achieved significant results in servosystem area, mainly with robots higher generation, machines and assembly lines. The results of scientific activities in robotic area were presented in the international exhibition in Brno with immense interest. At department were created new structures of robust operated systems, moving systems, intelligent moving systems and movable robotics systems, etc. from the inception till now.
